| Abstract | Author and corporate executive Lalita Tademy was born in 1948 in Berkeley, California. She attended both Howard University and the University of California at Los Angeles, earning her B.S. degree in psychology in 1970. In 1972, she earned her M.B.A. degree from U.C.L.A.'s Graduate School of Management. She then began a successful corporate career, working for Memorex Corporation, ITT's printer company, Qume, and ALPS America. In 1992, Tademy was hired as vice president and general manager of Sun Microsystems in Silicon Valley, California. She left her position in 1995 to research her family history, and decided to write a novel. Her first work, Cane River, was based on her mother's family history, and was published in 2001.The book was selected for Oprah's Book Club and became a New York Times bestseller. Her second novel, Red River, was based on her father's family history and was published in 2007. |
