Kennedy School of Government, and graduated from Harvard University's KSG Women and Power Executive Leadership program. From 1985 to 1998, Edney worked as a writer for the Richmond Afro-American and the Richmond Free Press. In 2000, she was hired as a correspondent for the NNPA News Service. In 2007, Edney was appointed editor-in-chief of the NNPA News Service and Blackpressusa.com. Then, in 2010, Edney launched the Trice Edney News Wire, and became president and chief executive officer of Trice Edney Communications, LLC. She also worked as an adjunct professor of journalism at Howard University, and served as interim executive director of the NNPA Foundation. Edney was honored for her work, and was the first African American woman inducted into the Virginia Communications Hall of Fame.;
