After high school, she went on to receive her A.B. degree in architecture and urban planning and a certificate in African American studies at Princeton University in 1978. She later received her J.D. degree from the University of Texas Law School in Austin, Texas. Morris began her career working as real estate counsel at the law firm of Baker and Botts. She was hired by Prudential Financial in 1985 as general counsel for their real estate operations. She was named president of the Prudential Foundation in 1994, where she remained until starting her own consulting firm in 2012. In 2014, Morris was named senior vice president of the UNICEF Bridge Fund. In addition to her career, she also served her community through various boards and committees.;
