Summary Annotation Togo is a small West African country situated between Benin and Ghana, extending from a narrow 32-mile Gulf of Guinea coastline 320 miles inland to landlocked Burkina Faso. Today, the country's territory is only two-thirds of the size of the original German colony of the same name. The population of around 3.5 million is a complex mosaic of peoples. Though producing a number of agricultural crops, it is the country's phosphate deposits that have provided Togo with a modicum of economic stability. However, political stability has evaded the country.
