The book is the companion volume to an academic conference entitled Icons of Popular Culture: Elvis & Marilyn . Portraits of Elvis & Marilyn are among the world s most famous images. The essays in this anthology address the issue of a proclamation of a new faith in a time -- defined by some as postmodern -- which is a time of transition. The works of art reproduced in this book, representing a variety of media, are about Elvis & Marilyn but they are also about a new way of seeing, one that challenges the current holdover of a 19th-century visual language. |
