Abstract This first volume of ENO Guides contains complete bi-lingual libretti of Verdi's Aida, Rossini's La Cenerentola, Beethoven's Fidelio and Mozart's The Magic Flute, four key works in the operatic repertoire. There are also a number of articles giving the historical background to each work and others by those directly concerned with modern production, indicating present day significance and how these 18th and 19th century works should be approached in the later 20th century. The volume is fully illustrated and contains thematic guides, bibliographies and discographies with much fascinating information about the works in question.
General noteThe individual English National Opera guides were first published in 1980 as separate volumes.
Bibliography noteIncludes bibliographies and discographies.
