Summary Journal kept aboard the whaleship CHELSEA of New London, by Thomas H. Roe, for a voyage to the Pacific Ocean whaling grounds. Describes a difficult passage around Cape Horn, as well as life in the forecastle, music, food, whale hunts, boats being destroyed by whales, and difficulties relating to drunkeness and brutality of the captain. Also mentions native contacts in Hawaii and a native describes the death of Captain Cook which he witnessed as a twelve year old boy. Spoke 39 vessels and made 16 ports-of-call.
