Summary Sea chest, carved in relief on front starboard view of 3-masted ship, carved below picture "FLYING CLOUD", a 5-pointed star each side of picture, becket handles, 3 hinges on lid, varnished inside, printed in pencil(?) on inside of lid upper left "CAPT. HERBERT HUMPHREY,/ YARMOUTH, ME.", lock, no key. Tradition has it that this chest, c. late 19th C., was carved for a capt. of the FLYING CLOUD by a common seaman. Ref: Herbert N. Humphrey mentioned in "Shipbuilding Days & Tales of the Sea in Old North Yarmouth and Yarmouth, Maine" by William Hutchinson Rowe, Marks Printing House, Portland, 1924, p. 62.
