There is a bass line of constant vitality, suggesting the pizzicato basses of Stravinsky's orchestra. The harmonies have been reduced from the elaborate chromatic structures of These, My Ophelia to simple triads. The revised version of this earlier song also shows greater harmonic simplicity and greater clarity and force in the piano writing.;
