General noteBegun by Orestes A. Brownson, this quarterly review dealt mainly with philosophy, literature, sociology, and theology. Brownson wrote most of his review himself, discussing, among other things, the labor question and advocating the abolition of hereditary descent of property and of the Christian priesthood. He occasionally printed articles by Alexander H. Everett, George Bancroft, George Ripley, Bronson Alcott, Margaret Fuller, Anne C. Lynch, Elizabeth Peabody, and Albert Brisban.
