Abstract On belief traces the contours of the often unconscious beliefs that structure our daily experience. The book shows that underlying all these experiences, virtual or real, is a pagan and ultimately futile search for divine and human perfection. Drawing on examples from film, psychoanalysis, cultural studies, philosophy and religion, the author calls for a return to the neglected Christian idea that belief is actually about imperfection. --book cover.
