Abstract This work proposes to cover all the important orthopedic implants and their use in upper and lower limbs. From the invention to pros and cons of the various implants and the logic of why the implants have been developed in their current forms, readers will learn about design, biomechanics needs, and materials. In addition, the book addresses fracture fixation and general issues contrasting different types of subgroups of implants such as nails versus plates or open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) versus external fixation. The book is divided into various sections including introduction to orthopedic implantology, principles of orthopedic nailing and plating, implants used in orthopedic traumatology, metallurgy and biomechanics, bone healing and removal of implants, orthopedic implantology in upper and lower limbs, orthopedic implantology in spine and pelvis, etc. It has a separate section on pediatric implants, which is quite unique. Written and edited by experienced surgeons from around the globe. Currently there are no specific reference books on this topic. Various commercial companies have operative manuals and inventory lists which detail their own products. This is a highly informative and carefully presented book that serves as both, a practical and theoretical guide for practicing orthopedic surgeons, scientists/researchers, academicians as well as students.
