| Abstract | "Technocreep and the Politics of Things Not Seen examines the incursion of technology into our everyday lives as both a potential threat and an opportunity to advance feminist and anti-capitalist futures. While debates about technological encroachment have largely focused on users' right to privacy, this collection posits "technocreep" as describing a relation that goes far beyond binaries of public/private and seeing/being seen into the most intimately felt realms of our existence. Editors Neda Atanasoski and Nassim Parvin contend that by dwelling within the creepiness of technocreep, we can begin to apprehend how new technologies have the potential to disrupt capitalist demarcations between human and machine that have long upheld racial capitalism. The collection examines a wide a range of technologies from home surveillance cameras to rape reporting apps to China's social credit system, reading these technologies alongside contemporary art that pushes the boundaries of technocreep. This volume offers readers a feminist analytic that embraces contingency, agency, and possibility to develop a more sophisticated understanding of the ever-evolving relationship between human and machine"-- Provided by publisher. |
