Abstract This anthology, part of the Western Music in Context series, is the ideal companion to "Music in the Nineteenth Century." Twenty-three carefully chosen works--including movements from a Beethoven string quartet, excerpts from operas by Verdi and Bizet, piano music by Gottschalk, a symphonic movement from Tchaikovsky, and more--offer representative examples of genres and composers of the period. Commentaries following each score present a careful analysis of the music.
General noteCompanion anthology to Music in the Nineteenth Century by Walter Frisch.
General noteEach selection followed by its text, when present, with English translation when necessary, and an analysis written by Frisch.
LanguageVocal selections in English, German, French, Italian, and Russian, also printed separately as text.
