General noteBy Osgood Carleton. The calculations in the eclipse notes, and for the sun, moon, and tides in the calendar pages, are identical (except for some typographical errors in the present edition) with those in his An astronomical diary: or An almanack for 1792 (Boston: S. Hall). The wording of the eclipse predictions is practically identical. The notes on the calendar pages, though differing, correspond as often as not.
