Ben W. Wyche papers,

Scope and content Papers of Benjamin Walker Wyche consist primarily of correspondence and financial papers concerning personal, business, medical, and collegiate interests. Correspondence with Sam Underwood, Ben Wyche's brother-in-law and lawyer, concerns the sale of Wyche's Store in exchange for cash and stocks in Merchants Distributing Company. As trustee of the Alice V. Wyche Trust Fund, Ben Wyche was responsible for the purchase, sale, and selection of investments for the fund. Correspondence also concerns the purchase and sale of stock for Ben Wyche himself. Major areas of investment include insurance, banking, industry, and trucking. Other correspondence concerns the takeover of Hanover Distributors by Ben and John Wyche, Ben Wyche's medical ailments, and Davidson College.

Biographical noteBenjamin Walker Wyche, son of John Ira Wyche and Alice May (Vincent) Wyche, was born August 29, 1914, in Weldon, N.C. He was educated in Weldon public schools and was a graduate of Davidson College, receiving his B.A. degree in 1933. He began his career as a wholesale grocer in 1942, working for his parents in the family owned business, Merchants Distributing Company. He was on the Board of Directors and Managers of Merchants Distributing Company and a director of Weldon Savings and Loan Association. He also served for four years in government in Weldon.
