Scope and content This collection includes the correspondence, reports, publications, clippings, photographs, and letters of James Harvey Brown, a U.S. Naval officer. Much of the early personal correspondence concerns Brown's preparation for, nomination to, and acceptance into the U.S. Naval Academy. Other correspondence and files pertain to Brown's tours of duty aboard naval vessels, including his experiences during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Correspondence to and from Brown's family discuss the economy, illness, and South Dakota.
