Abstract A young Jewish migrant living in London at the turn of the 19th century works with her family in a sweatshop. But Esther is the weak link in the operation. She is slow and stubborn, she never has an opinion on anything and never feels anything for anyone. She decides to become an actress, because it is only in the theater that she awakens. It is on the stage that, one evening, she breaks through twenty years of suppressed life, and really begins to live--Container.
