Abstract Few composers, certainly few contemporary composers, have been better documented than Stravinsky. Numerous musicians have already given first-hand accounts of his life and music, from various viewpoints, ranging from Ramuz to Craft. But the definitive work must await the study of the large amount of unpublished material still kept in Russia and in America. Meanwhile, this book presents the facts, as known at present, of Stravinsky's life, and treats the entire published corpus of his music, most of which the composer himself recorded, from the viewpoint of style and aesthetic.
